Weekend Roundup

This weekend we have some unique and one of a kind performing arts for you. Lets jump right into it with our first option.

Austria's Salzburg Marionette Theatre: They will be performing two different shows this weekend, "The Sound of Music", and "Hansel and Gretel". For 100 years the company has performed dramatic presentations utilizing the remarkable life-like movements of its elaborate costumed, two foot tall, string-manipulated puppets on lavish backdrops set to beautiful recorded music. These performances present the charm and wonder of a long-standing European tradition in a fresh and exciting way. The Sound of Music run time is 1 hour and 45 minutes, Hansel and Gretel's run time is 65 minutes. The Opera is performed in English. Ages 4+ are admitted to the performances with a ticket. Tickets sold on line here. Event held at the De Jong Concert Hall on BYU campus (c-358 HFAC, Provo).

Vocal Point at the Covey Center: This nine-man vocal band, combines harmony, humor and remarkable

vocal percussion into a thrilling showcase. They were top-five finalist on NBC's hit show The Sing-off in 2011 and were first runner-up at the finals of the Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. There are two shows at the Covey Center this weekend. The first is Friday, November 1 at 7:30 and the second is Saturday, November 2 at 7:30. The Covey Center for the arts is located at 425 West Center Street, Provo.

Laugh Out Loud Night with Keith Stubbs and Friends: This event is being held at the SCERA Center for the Arts in Orem (745 South State Street). It starts at 7:00 pm on Saturday November 2, 2013. Keith Stubbs is a NYC stockbroker turned comedian known for his smart and quick-witted banter. He has been on A&E Evening at the Improv, Comedy Central and headlining at sold-out comedy events coast to coast. He earned a loyal following during his years on "The Stubbs Radio Show".

In the Heights: The Hale Center Theater in Orem (225 West 400 North) is putting on this Tony winning Musical. The show celebrates a community and culture through dance, song, and lets the audiences glimpse into the hopes, dreams, and struggles of the residents in New York's vibrant Washington Heights neighborhood. The show runs until November 23, 2013. Price ranges from $16-$20.
